3D Game Development Project: Stage 2
COMP352 - The Lost Child
CHAPTER 3
If the player successfully finds the mirror, they will 'teleport' to this level which is also the second stage of the dungeon. For this level, I made it a little more interesting where I created a tunnel-like design and duplicated it to make it into a 'loop' map. This means that when the player will need to wander endlessly along these secluded hallways through almost identical maps to search for the mirror. The loop effect is achieved by my programming member. After a number of 'completed loops', the player will find themselves in front of a wooden door and gain access to the 'actual' room where the mirror lies.
*Don't forget about your ghoulish friends...*

The player will find themselves at the entrance of the casket room after a few loops. This area is only for decoration purposes and does not contribute to the actual gameplay. I've added it in to further satisfy the player's curiosity and more free roam space after endless wandering to give them a chance to close in on their objective.
Here is a short video showing the walk-through of stage 2. (I have excluded the ghouls in the video)

Dungeon Level 2
- The layout of the map as shown above. It consists of 3 areas, the tunnel passage, the torture chamber and the casket room. A closer view of the areas will be showed below.

The environment showcases a heap of disconcerting objects that contribute to the overall ambiance of the dungeon. The objects can be viewed HERE.
STARTING POSITION
The player arrives here after completing level 1. From a designer's aspect, the environment here feels more secluded as compared to the previous level. The aim of this is to let the player experience a different kind of momentum, instead of roaming in a large space, they would have to follow a certain path which can trigger their curiosity.
As the whole map nearly looks identical, the player might get confused after a while. The wooden door with two fireholders on the right can be accessed which will lead them to the torture rooms.
The tunnel map concludes with a door at the end of the hallway. Going through the door will lead the player back to the current/almost identical map they are in.
This is the casket room. Originally, I wanted to add more game-related assets such as clues and hints of where the mirror might be to cater for rooms like these. However due to restricted time constraints, I was not able to include them. In other games, they also harvest certain areas that do not contribute to the game at all. They are plainly created for additional environmental art to make the game look prettier.
The torture chamber. This is where the mirror lies but not quite. The player will enter this room after a few loops. The above picture shows the 'fake' chamber where player can only roam around. The design of the chamber is fused with rusty iron gates, splattered blood and dangling chain cuffs that give off a resemblance to the concept a torture chamber.
1. Example of rusty iron gates and dangling chain cuffs.
Well done. The player did it. To encounter this room means that they have successfully completed the number of loops required to clear the level. This is the 'real' torture chamber. Same art design and assets as the 'fake' torture chamber apart from the mirror hanging at the end of the wall. The mirror will bring the player to the final level of the dungeon which will be continued in Chapter 4.
